It used to be that if we wanted an authentic panini we would have to go to a specialist cafe or delicatessen but now a days many of us can make them in our own kitchen. This machine is not just a sandwich maker. However, if I am being perfectly honest, this is the only thing that, in my opinion, you should do with it. Allow me to explain. You can actually grill things like sausages and pork chops if you want but would you really then want to toast a sandwich on the same surface? Of course you would clean it in between usages but the one thing that you should be aware of is that the hot plates of the Cuisinart GR-1 are fixed. Therefore they cannot be removed so that we can give them a good wash in some warm soapy water. This is why I think it is best to use it exclusively as a sandwich press.
